Inhalt | Abstract In the present work, the effects of SiO2 nanoparticles, short carbon fibers (SCFs) and the combined roles of two kinds of fillers on the tribological behaviour of epoxy was studied. The tribological characteristics, i.e. friction coefficients and wear rates, of neat epoxy and three series of composites, i.e. nano-SiO2 filled epoxy nanocomposites, SCFs filled traditional composites, SCFs and nano-SiO2 filled hybrid composites were measured. The results indicate that the incorporation of nano-SiO2 only slightly influence the tribological performance of the matrix. However, SCFs decrease the wear rate of epoxy significantly. The hybrid composites show much higher wear resistance than the composites filled uniquely with nano-SiO2 and SCFs. Synergetic roles of nanoparticles and SCFs are revealed. |
